We have also added an Online Application feature in order to expedite the process for our applicants. Though the Scholarship web at http://www.idodi.org/disc/scholarship/index.htm will not have the links published until tonight, we wanted to give out the direct links right away. Please share them with any graduating high school senior or college students you may know!

Remember that the creativity and/or service provided, plus DI participation and level of involvement, are the main criteria for our scholarship award process.

The Online Process has three parts:

DISC Scholarship Online Application Part 2  (All Tracks) Part 2 Personal Information and Involvement

DISC Scholarship Online Application Part 3 (All Tracks) Review

ACA Board Meeting – Discovery Middle School, Madison
8/05/06, 9:00 AM

Affiliate Director, Gary Brown called the meeting to order.

Members in Attendance: Gary Brown, Affiliate Director (AD); Kathy Brown, Affiliate Challenge Master (ACM); Ginger Cox, ACM; Robin Dauma, Tournament Director-North; Deb Mason, Affiliate Training Director (ATD); Lindsey Mason, Regional Director (RD) Central/South; David Merzbacher, Affiliate Scoring Director; Rich Randall, ACM; GL Simpson, Board Secretary; Kay Simpson, RD-North; David Thomason, Instant Challenge (IC) Master.  Also in attendance was Ethelyn Brown.  Kay moved to have Ethelyn Brown and Marlene Thomason added to the board since they are in charge of Sales for Regional and Affiliate; Ginger seconded; the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
There was no treasurer’s report.  Gary reported that he is now included as a co-signer on affiliate accounts.

Regional Directors’ (RD) Reports
Kay Simpson reported that preparation for 06-07 tournaments is progressing well; she expects the number of teams to remain about the same as last year. The northern region needs help in the RD position as Kay will retire at the end of this season.

Lindsey Mason encouraged the board to assign roles for tournaments.  She praised the excellent E-mail program of DI-AL and noted that Amy Bryan is doing an outstanding job with the Website.  There was some discussion about having regional and state forms added to the DI-AL site so TM’s might register online and facilitate that process.

Affiliate Training Director’s (ATD) Report
Deb Mason reported that the AD Training meeting will be held in Knoxville, Sept 29-Oct. 1, 2006.  Deb requested additional help—someone from the northern region—to help in dealing with Affiliate and Regional training.  Kay Simpson volunteered to help Deb in the training program.  Ginger made a motion for Kay to be Assistant ATD for the northern region; the motion was seconded by Lindsey and the motion carried.  While Deb and Kay are attending the ATD training they will work on assignments of tournament duties for board members.  Gary encouraged other board members to submit ideas to Deb or Kay prior to September 29.

Alumni Report
The Alabama Alumni group—the Duct-tape Caped Crusaders—want and need more of an active role in the tournaments and general ACA responsibilities.  Discussion about these duties included roles in Recruitment and Tournament Entertainment, or possibly as Challenge Masters for challenges A-E or IC as needed.  It was also suggested that the Alumni group operate a sign-up table for all graduating seniors to help keep the alumni program growing.  It was suggested that this group of graduating senior be recognized for their involvement in DI at both Regional and Affiliate tournaments.

David Thomason will take responsibility to meet with Alan Brazzell and the Alumni members to obtain their input about enlarged role in DI-AL.

ACA Meeting Dates
The next ACA Board meeting will be a short one following the ID/Team Training event at McWane Center (pending McWane staff approval) on either Saturday, January 13 or January 20 (alternate date).

Old Business
The board discussed negative feedback following the 2006 affiliate tournament and considered ways to correct these issues and concerns

  • Assign specific duties to all board members to eliminate problem areas and assure that all tournament duties are adequately covered by experienced DI personnel.

  • Various board members volunteered to speak to disgruntled school memberships and/or smooth areas for other school programs: Kay and Gary will talk to Kilby School; David Thomason will talk with Madison County Elementary; and Lindsey Mason will talk with Andalusia.

Other Business

Official ACA minutes will be posted on the DI-AL Website in the future.  Also, once specific board member roles and duties are determined, they will be posted as well.

Following the IC training event in January, there will be an evaluation of the training event in conjunction with the winter ACA Board meeting.  Upcoming tournament plans and training events will be major topics for this board session.

Corporate Sponsorship
Gary Brown will pursue a corporate sponsorship between DI-AL and the McWane Center similar to the agreement created between DI-AL and The Alabama Space and Rocket Center.  David Thomason will continue work with the Space and Rocket Center partnership.

Motion to adjourn was made by Kathy Brow, seconded by David Merzbacher and carried.

Respectfully submitted
G. L. Simpson, ACA Secretary
